I seriously needed to take a minute to reply to this. I’m baffled. I am an atheist and have no problems debating evolution vs creationism and it can never end in a draw. Creationism isn’t true, its a myth and relies solely on faith. There is no evidence to support creationism, it cannot be tested in a lab and therefore is not a hypothesis or theory, its simply a belief.

I will start with the word theory that is being misused here.

A theory is what one or more hypotheses become once they have been verified and accepted to be true. A theory is an explanation of a set of related observations or events based upon proven hypotheses and verified multiple times by detached groups of researchers.

Gravity is a theory, although I dont see anyone jumping off buildings because its only a “theory”.

Evolution is supported by a mountain of evidence, evidence that shows that with out a doubt, the theory is true. Evolution, is a fact.

The extensive evidence in support of both fact and theory of evolution comes primarily from studies of the fossil record, molecular sequences, and comparative anatomy

Creationists use the word theory incorrectly, either because they do not understand science, or more importantly because they are trying to deceive you.

So you do not need a god like being to come down and prove evolution, you need to stop being lazy and look at the actual evidence and scientific facts that support it.

Before making posts about a scientific theory, go ahead and open google, get to know some very basic scientific terms and you may be surprised at what you learn.

because the honest atheist will admit that evolution is, after all, only a theory. No matter how reasonable an explanation one may find it, no matter how much evidence is presented, there is no definitive proof. The Creationist, on the other hand, has it rather easy; for him, the Bible is simple truth. He has his proof. In the end, both sides can scoff and condescendingly claim that the other side’s argument requires the existence of magic. The debate will perpetually be concluded as a draw. I find the most ironic thing to be that in order for evolution to truly be proven without a doubt, a Godlike being would have to present itself and say to us all, “You were right. Everything evolved from a single celled organism.”

Christopher Hitchens - The Best of the Hitchslap

Terrible news to wake up to today about the death of Christopher Hitchens.

He will be missed.

I saw a thing about Space X on the show A Brave New World with Stephen Hawking. Its pretty amazing, the man who owns Space X is the founder of PayPal and is now using his billions of help fund new space projects in the US. NASA even helps fund some of these projects and I cant wait to see what they are able to do!

SpaceX will be first private company to embark on mission to International Space Station
SpaceX will fly its Dragon capsule on an unmanned mission to the International Space Station in February, marking the first-ever bid by a private company to dock at the orbiting lab, NASA said Friday.

The fly-by and berthing mission are scheduled for February 7, 2012, the U.S. space agency said in a statement. (SpaceX/Chris Thompson)

this is something to be very excited about!

Kepler 22b: An Almost Earth Orbiting an Almost Sun Illustration Credit: NASA / Ames / JPL-Caltech

Explanation: It’s the closest match to Earth that has yet been found. Recently discovered planet Kepler 22b has therefore instantly become the best place to find life outside our Solar System. The planet’s host star, Kepler 22, is actually slightly smaller and cooler than the Sun, and lies 600 light-years from Earth toward the constellation of the Swan (Cygnus). The planet, Kepler 22b, is over twice the radius of the Earth and orbits slightly closer in, but lies in the habitable zone where liquid water could exist on the surface. Pictured above is an artist’s depiction of how Kepler 22b might appear to an approaching spaceship, in comparison to the inner planets of our Solar System. Whether Kepler 22b actually contains water or life is currently unknown. A SETI project, however, will begin monitoring Kepler 22b for signs of intelligence.

I have to wonder why everyone feels like this guy is so special and refreshing. He says hell is an invention of the church to control people with fear. He is correct, it very much is, but havnt atheists, agnostics and people of non christian faith been saying this for decades? millennia?

What I see in this video at the end of the day is someone who is picking and choosing what to believe. He says he is a christian, then disowns everything christians believe. So once he says the bible is not true, he theoretically tosses out the whole belief in God. He does not believe Jesus was the actual son of God, more-so the adopted son of God. Where exactly does he get that belief from? Thats not a christian belief, yet he still calls himself a christian because he believes Jesus was of a certain importance, but again, Jesus only exists in the bible, and he said the bible is not true.

So I have to wonder where his belief in God and Jesus come from if nothing about the Holy Book is true.

When I publicly say there is no hell, I am labeled a preachy atheist. When this guy does it, he is a breath of fresh air.

If you are going to be a christian and use the bible for proof of a God and Jesus, then you have to believe in the whole bible, every word of it. He claims the bible is a work of fiction but offers no further proof to his claims.

So in reality, he is just another believer morphing his views to fit into what he wants to be true, and taking the only “proof” christianity has and picking what parts to believe and what parts not to and making up the rest on his own.

So that is why I do not understand what makes this guy such a big deal.
